Born in Schenectady, NY in 1948 self taught artist Thomas Eaton has been attracted to painting since childhood. While actively exploring the world of visual art, he was introduced to traditional styles reflecting the Boston Schools, as well as the "isms," and innately recognizing a style of his own. Working surrealist contemporary, and traditoal subjects on canvas and board, he is consistently described as imaginative and unique. The results, a focused personally symbolic take on the realities, that lie beneath the surface of our minds.
Artists Statement
The structure of a painting rather than formalities, sequence, and limitations is usually the format I follow. Creating somewhat of a paradox of past and present events in everyday life. Taking an ordinary item, and reshaping the physical aspects then, placing that item in unusual setting, seems to be a good precedent for a surreal painting. I believe it is essential for the painting to arouse curiosity. |
