Artists Statement

Dr. John Blanton found a way to combine his passion for home orchid growing and photography in some of the images presented here. Landscapes from Africa, Alaska, Martha's Vineyard, Tuscany, the Virgin Islands, and the rainforests of Costa Rica also provided favorite subjects for his camera.

His images tend to incorporate vivid color, and soft formats that attempt to evoke feelings of peace. Saving some of the beauty that is all around us on film is what his pictures are about.

He uses a Canon EOS IV camera with Fujifilm Velvia. Most of the orchids featured in his images are photographed with ambient light. They are grown in his basement under high intensity lights.

John's other passions include his wife, children, friends, family, traveling, and flying his airplane.
