"Where evidence of age misleads, and Dali thrives"
... In contrast with Gallery 81, White Space Gallery is a veritable razzle-dazzle of art and artists. A brightly lit, high-key retail gallery, it is chockablock with artwork.
There are paintings, prints, sculptures and photographs by a bevy of artists, from Picasso. Mira and Chagall (all three of whom are represented by signed and numbered prints) to more local fare. The styles and techniques of the pieces on display are as varied as the artists.
The major focus is "The Final Editions of Salvador Dali" (1904-88), a selection of 12 signed, limited-edition lithographs that span various periods of the artist's career. This group of works reflects the enigmatic array of Dali's oeuvre, ranging from the hidden images found in pieces like "Surrealist Flower" and "Cascade of Souls" to the symbolic narratives of pieces like "Surrealist Matador" and "Don Quixote on an Infinite Landscape."
The extensive display of works by contemporary artists, both local and international, includes elusive fantasy paintings by Tatyana Eliseeva. concrete color photographs by Larry Cowles, abstract bronze sculptures by Craig Fredericks and figurative pieces by Carol E. Muskin.
The selections are so diverse that it's easy to overlook some of the best pieces, like Fanny Brennan's lovely series of lyrical little lithographs.
